Power Generation Field Technician - San Leandro

Position: Journeyman Technician
Department: Service
Location: San Leandro

Job Description:

Power generation technician will deliver all levels of maintenance, repair, commissioning and troubleshooting on products sold by Cummins West. Additionally, the technician will perform repairs on products contracted under Customer Service Agreements.

Duties (include but not limited to):

  • Support CWI Customer Service Philosophy and Standards
  • Exhibit strong technical skills in the operation, maintenance and service of power generation equipment
  • Exhibit highly professional standards of conduct in dealing with fellow employees and customers
  • Be familiar with diesel and alternative fueled engines troubleshooting maintenance and repair
  • Be familiar with AC generators, voltage regulators, circuit breakers, transfer switches, electronic controls, Onan generators and power systems
  • Follow the technician’s responsibilities in managing the repair in support of the established Cummins Customer Care process
  • Write clear and accurate summaries of repairs and service performed with appropriate detail to ensure Cummins West can charge fairly for services rendered
  • Meet or exceed established standard repair times
  • Remain current on service topics by successfully completing classroom and virtual college training courses. Attend regular team meetings
  • Must participate in the “On Call” rotation as assigned by the Service Team Leader
  • Follow the technician’s responsibilities in managing the repair in support of the established Cummins Customer Care process
  • Understand and follow Cummins West policies and procedures
  • Able to troubleshoot and repair systems with minimal supervision
  • Manage and operate Field service vehicles in accordance with established policies and procedures

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and three to five years works experience
  • Five years work experience in the repair and maintenance of diesel/propane/natural gas powered generating equipment
  • Five years work experience with Automatic Transfer Switches and/or parallel switchgear
  • Journeyman level 2 or 3 preferred
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Very strong customer service skills
